Find Me! Teach Me! Workshops

FIND ME! TEACH ME! – OUR MISSION

To actively look for individual young men, women and children who have physical, mental, social or financial challenges. To help them cope with those challenges by providing a specialized series of entertainment-oriented workshops. By teaching these very needy young people new creative skills with which they can view their lives in more positive, more productive ways. To empower them to feel stronger, less fearful and to never give up on hoping for better tomorrows. However seemingly impossible, we would like to bring some smiles and add a little joy to who and what they are.

  1. DISCOVERING THE CLIENTS
  2. EVALUATING THE CLIENTS (INITIAL)
  3. ADAPTING THE TEACHING TO THEIR SPECIFIC NEEDS
  4. IMPLEMENTATION: REENERGIZE VIA AVMW
  5. EVALUATIONS OF CLIENTS AFTER AVMW
  6. EVALUATE PROGRAM EFFECTIVENESS

 DISCOVERING THE CLIENTS (“FIND ME!”)

As we are a new, slowly developing program, with limited funding currently, we are committed to quality – not quantity. We will initially be reaching out to six or so different areas of need:

  1. Physical, Mental Disabilities
  2. Intimidation (Bullying; Sexual Harassment; Emotional and Physical Abuse)
  3. Fear, Shyness, Verbal Inadequacies
  4. Physical Coordination
  5. Homeless
  6. Orphan

We will be keep the class sizes very low in the beginning. Twelve seems to be a workable number.

EVALUATING THE CLIENTS (“WHO AM I?”)

Once we find our students, trained professionals as well as caring social workers will spend time with each client to determine her/his needs and desires. This will be a two-way process where our people will ask lots of question and invite the clients to ask back.

ADAPTING THE TEACHINGS TO CLIENT’S SPECIFIC NEEDS (“HELP ME LEARN!”)

No two people are ever alike in their needs, desires, challenges and abilities. Each individual, potential client will be evaluated by different members of our staff to determine what learning gifts we’ll be sharing with them.

IMPLEMENTATION (TEACH ME)

This is the heart of our program. It most definitely will at first be a work in progress to see what will work best for the clients. By using past and present teaching methods designed to create good Actors, Dancers, Musicians, etc., we hope to gradually transform some of our clients’ perceptions about Life and Living. How to grow confidence. How to move without fear. How to speak and communicate more effectively. Many real Actors are often challenged in many ways in their non-entertainment lives. Countless numbers of them have credited learning how to be on stage or in front of a camera as a turning point in how they cope with life. It helped them with their personal self-esteem issues and also allowed them to more easily adapt to new and sometimes difficult situations.

CLIENT EVALUATIONS AFTER AVMW WORKSHOP TRAINING (“AM I STRONGER NOW?”)

What kind of progress has the client made? Has there been any improvement or understanding that the client is feeling / experiencing in their situation? It’s not enough that they leave with a smile on their faces when they leave our workshops. We want them to start having ongoing, internal smiles that tell us that they are feeling better about themselves, that they feel stronger and more empowered. This won’t be an easy test since oftentimes the client / student will want to please the staff by giving the ‘right answers’. Unlike some other statistic-based, charitable organizations, we want real, meaningful, ongoing improvements in our clients. We are all committed to making that happen.

PROGRAM EVALUATIONS: ARE THE AVMW WORKSHOPS EFFECTIVE?

WHAT IMPROVEMENTS / CHANGES CAN AND SHOULD BE MADE?

It’s great to have interesting programs that a charitable organization thinks will benefit certain members of a community. But, too many times, the client becomes a pawn in a public-relations presentation of that organization. Pretty photo ops, highly stylized, glowing assessments of the group’s outreach efforts sometimes mask actual poor results. Their “Program” becomes a rigid bible that is adhered to without much questioning once their methodology is created. Finding funding, which is so vital to all groups, too many times becomes the top goal as opposed to helping the people that were initially the focus.

We at FIND ME! TEACH ME! believe very strongly in our unique “AVMW PROGRAM“. BUT, we know that what may look good as a concept in the planning stages may not work as well once it’s applied. That’s why we promise to continually question our methods and especially our results. We’re going to create a specific manual just for this purpose. We want to always be open to new teaching tools and possibilities.

Providing Compassionate and Caring Instruction and Empowerment is who we are and the important gift we want to give to Young People in Need.

The ACTING / VOICE / MOVEMENT WORKSHOPS (AVMW). are at the heart of our program. By using past and present teaching methods designed to create good Actors, Dancers, Musicians, etc., we hope to gradually transform some of our client’s perceptions about Life and Living:

  1. How to grow confidence.
  2. How to move without fear.
  3. How to speak and communicate more effectively.
